Visiting the Redwoods National Park in northern California was something Ryo had long wanted to do. To stand, and hike, among the tallest trees on earth, dwarfed by their towering magnificence, must surely be one of the most awe-inspiring experiences ever.
“They’re… big,” Dee murmured, tipping his head back, trying to see the tops of the trees.
“Oh yeah,” Ryo replied, breathless with wonder.
“I mean, I knew they were tall, but actually seein’ them…” Dee trailed off again.
“Knowing and seeing, not the same thing.” Ryo rested one hand on the trunk of the nearest giant. “Makes me wonder how long it took them to grow this big. How much history they’ve seen since they were tiny saplings.” He sat down with his back to the tree, looking up through the branches, so far above his head. “I don’t think I’ve ever felt smaller.”
“I know what ya mean.” Dee flopped down to sit beside his lover at the side of the trail, just trying to take it all in. The magnificence, the sheer overwhelming scale of everything, was enough to blow his mind. Every other tree in existence paled in comparison to these. “Imagine tryin’ to climb one.”
