This was ridiculous, it shouldn’t even be happening, but somehow Dee had completely lost control of the situation, and he had no idea how. Maybe he’d been focussing too much on Ryo when he should have been dealing with the unwelcome third person, but Ryo had been the one needing his attention. JJ had simply been there, uninvited, unwanted, just tagging along because Dee was distracted enough that he hadn’t thought to do anything about it. Now, however…
Dee glared at JJ as he reluctantly allowed the smaller man to practically drag him away from Ryo’s apartment, because the only way JJ would leave was if Dee went with him. He’d already been annoyed that the lovestruck idiot had somehow blundered back into his life again; he’d thought he was well rid of Jemmy J Adams when the other man had been recruited to specialist sniper training right out of the police academy. But no, he had to show up again at the worst possible time, just as Dee was trying, so far unsuccessfully, to get something going with his partner. JJ was like a jinx, or the proverbial bad penny, always turning up where he wasn’t wanted, following Dee around like a lost puppy, and an opinionated one at that.
“You don’t get to tell me what I can do, where I can go, or who I can see,” he snapped, yanking his arm out of JJ’s grip so violently he made the other man stumble. “You don’t own me, never have, and never will. Hell, you don’t even KNOW me!”
“Of course I do, Mr Wonderful!” JJ beamed up at him, hearts in his eyes. “I know EVERYTHING about you, no one could possibly know you better!” He scurried after Dee, who was striding away along the street, his greater height and longer legs meaning JJ needed to break into a run to avoid being left behind.
“Oh yeah? What’s my favorite color then?”
“Blue!” JJ replied immediately.
“What’s my favorite band?”
“Spice Girls!”
“And my favorite food?”
“Paella!”
“Wrong, wrong, and wrong; those are YOUR favourites, the kinda stuff you would like, not me! You know nothin’ about me, and that’s the way I want it! Now get lost; I’m goin’ home, and you are NOT goin’ with me!”
“But, but… we should celebrate our reunion! I know a great restaurant!”
“There’s nothin’ to celebrate, dumbass, no reunion, no nothin’! Can’t you get that through your damn head?”
Raising his hand, Dee flagged down a passing taxi and climbed in, giving the driver an address in Manhattan. JJ scrambled in behind him, and as the taxi started to move, Dee quickly jumped out the other side. The taxi roared away without him, and with a sigh of relief, Dee headed back towards Ryo’s apartment. His partner was sick with a fever and shouldn’t be alone; Dee planned on staying with him all night, just to make sure he was okay. Maybe then Ryo would understand how much he cared.
The End
