JJ was cute, in his way, and Dee was sort of flattered that he’d made such an immediate impression on his fellow cadet; who didn’t enjoy being told they were hot, sexy, desirable? And Dee was both young enough and vain enough to believe he was all those things. He’d certainly never had any complaints on that score from any of his boyfriends and girlfriends over the years. Some of them had complained about other things, Dee was only human and not as perfect as he might like to believe, but no one had ever considered him less than gorgeous. At least, not that he knew of.
The problem was that although JJ was cute enough to look at, he wasn’t Dee’s type. He was too bouncy, and always talking; seriously, he never seemed to shut up! And it wasn’t like he was talking about anything interesting, like what they were being taught at the academy, or sports, or cars, or music. All he jabbered on about was love and romance, like a Hallmark movie being played at double speed on a continuous loop. He gave Dee a headache, much the way the youngest kids at the orphanage did.
Dee liked guys who were quiet, calm, introspective, but capable of holding a conversation. Guys with a wide range of interests and a knowledge of current affairs. Guys who had their own opinions, but didn’t stick to them rigidly, could change their minds, even admit it if they found out they’d been wrong about something. The open-minded sort, intelligent, honest, kind, someone it would be relaxing to be around, but someone who would stand up to him, set him straight, if he was being an ass, because Dee was self-aware enough to know he COULD be an ass, especially if he’d been drinking.
He also preferred someone close to his own height, which JJ absolutely was not, someone physically fit and athletic, muscular without being musclebound, with slim hips, long legs, and a tight ass. JJ simply didn’t tick any of Dee’s boxes. Unfortunately for Dee, JJ seemed obsessed with him.
And Dee was doing his best to discourage that, without being too cruel, because he wasn’t a monster. It was just that JJ had selective hearing, and since what Dee was saying wasn’t what the other cadet wanted to hear, no matter what he said, it fell on deaf ears.
The End
