Double Drabble: Meat Free
Sep. 13th, 2025 05:15 pmTitle: Meat Free
Author:
Characters: Ianto, Gwen, Rhys, Team.
Rating: PG
Written For: Challenge 882: Taste at
Spoilers: Countrycide.
Summary: Encountering cannibals affected the team for a long time.
Disclaimer: I don’t own Torchwood, or the characters.
A/N: Double drabble.
The whole team had gone off meat for months after encountering the cannibals. The very idea that there were people in the twenty-first century, human beings, who’d somehow developed a taste for eating other humans, was so horrifying they didn’t want to think about it.
That meant, for most of them, that anything which might serve as an unwelcome reminder was best avoided, so… There went their regular order of meat feast pizza, bacon butties, burgers, ham sandwiches, the Sunday roast, even chicken nuggets. Meat of any description was off the menu.
Most of the team didn’t have to explain suddenly going veggie to anyone, and Gwen just told her boyfriend that she was trying to eat more healthily, and couldn’t he at least try to be supportive?
Ianto ordered vegetable pizza for the team, suddenly deciding veggies weren’t the enemy, and the array of pastries at breakfast time had to be seen to be believed. Rhys even asked Gwen if she was pregnant when, despite eating a lot of salads, she actually gained a few pounds, complaining that her jeans were too tight.
Eventually vegetarianism lapsed, meat eating resumed, life went on, but nobody was quite the same afterwards.
The End
