Summary: Just because something is impressive doesn’t mean it’s appealing to look at.

“You asked to see something impressive, so what d’you think?” The Doctor beamed at his current companion, history student Julian Montgomery.
“Oh my God!” Julian had thought some of the architecture of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries overly ornate, but this… He’d never seen so many cornices, curlicues, cupolas, colonnades, and vaulted roofs in so many different materials, all on one building. If anything, the interior was even more elaborate, everything so intricately carved, and covered in vividly painted frescoes that it made his eyes water. “Why?”
“Baroque was in style; everyone with enough money wanted to outdo each other.”
