A/N: Double drabble.
“It’s one of the greatest mysteries in the universe,” Jack said as he and Ianto stood on the observation deck of the space station to view the impossible structure floating in the vacuum of space. “No one’s even been able to say whether it’s a natural phenomenon or created by some vastly superior intelligence.”
It was massive beyond human comprehension, the size of a sun, and very much like a three-dimensional sunburst, rays reaching out in all directions, but it was frozen, like a sun had been turned to solid ice just as it went nova. And yet it shone with its own light, a shimmering rose gold, with ever-shifting bands of pink, lemon, and pale green, and it was giving out heat.
Obviously that meant it wasn’t ice, despite its appearance; it also wasn’t glass, hard plastic of any description, or any known kind of crystal. It was harder than diamond, all its flat surfaces so smooth as to be frictionless, all its edges razor sharp, and it had been right where it was for at least a billion years, unmoving and unchanging.
“It’s incredible.” Ianto stared at it in awe.
“A mystery I hope will never be solved.”
