Waking up before his lover, as early sunshine filtered in through the canvas of their tent, Ryo smiled. This would be the last camping trip of the year, the weather was already a bit nippy, but they had three days off, so they’d decided to make the most of it by getting away from the city.
 

The trees were just starting to change color, nowhere near as spectacular as they’d be in a month but pretty enough, and they knew they might not get to make their annual trip to New England this year, so they were taking what they could get.
 

Reaching out, Ryo ran the tip of one finger along Dee’s jawline, relishing the rough texture. The unshaven, stubbly look seemed to suit the setting, and Ryo knew he looked the same. He leaned in for a kiss as Dee stirred, their beard stubble rasping.
 

“Morning,” he murmured against Dee’s lips.

 
“Mornin’ comes way too early out here,” Dee grumbled, but his arms wound around Ryo, pulling him closer. “Why’d I haveta fall in love with an early bird?”
 

“Why’d I have to fall for someone who’d sleep all day if he could?” Ryo replied.

 
“Works for us.”
