It was silly really, Buffy didn’t know why she was so nervous, except that everything was going to be different now. Living at home and keeping her Slayer identity secret from her mom had been difficult enough, and in the end, she’d had to come clean about everything, but now she was going to be living away from what had become her safe space. More importantly, she’d be sharing a dorm room with another girl, a stranger… That couldn’t help but complicate matters.
Sure, home was only a few short miles away, it wasn’t as if she’d decided to enrol in a college in another state, or another country. And all her friends would be nearby; Willow and Oz would even be at UC Sunnydale with her, and Giles was still in town, so she’d still have her support network within easy reach, and she could go home anytime she wanted.
But being independent was part of the college experience, and she should be embracing that. She was a legal adult, and she was single, so she should be looking forward to living the college lifestyle, and she was. Sort of.
Still, leaving the nest was harder than she’d expected.
