“Oh, great,” Dee muttered under his breath. “Here comes trouble! Just what we don’t need.”
Ryo threw a glance his partner’s way. “What d’you… Oh.”
“Yeah, oh.” The sour expression on Dee’s face made him look like he’d taken a big bite out of a lemon.
Commissioner Berkeley Rose was striding towards them, looking as officious as only he could.
“What could the Commissioner possibly want?”
“Don’t know, and I don’t care. This is OUR crime scene, so he’d better not go stompin’ all over it, makin’ whatever evidence there might be completely useless in court.” As much as he claimed to hate working a crime scene, Dee could be quite territorial.
“He knows better than that, he’s a trained police officer. Came up through the ranks the same way we did.”
“Yeah, but he did it in Long Island, not one of the rougher parts of the Big Apple.”
“He won’t want to get blood on his shoes though.”
“Point,” Dee agreed.
“Commissioner Rose,” Ryo said politely as the man reached them. “What can we do for you?”
“Oh, nothing much. I was just passing; thought I’d see what was happening here.”
“Dead body,” Dee said. “Nothin’ to see.”
The End
