“Most accidents happen in the home,” Dee said, making Ryo frown at his lover.
“What are you talking about?”
Dee shrugged. “Just sayin’.”
“We weren’t at home though. We were at work.”
“We spend more time at work than we do at home, that’s what it feels like anyway, so work is probably next on the list. Home, then work, so statistically…”
“Did you hit your head or something?”
“Don’t think so.” Dee turned to his partner. “Did you?”
“No, and you mostly broke my fall, so I think you came off worse.” Ryo sighed, lying back on the hospital gurney. “Technically speaking, I’m not even sure this counts as an accident, it was more of a deliberate attempt on our lives.”
“I thought it was more a case of us bein’ in the way. That guy practically ran right over us.”
“Which might not have been so bad if we hadn’t been standing at the top of the stairs.” Ryo cradled his throbbing wrist.
“Yeah, let’s not stand there again. Now I know how bowling pins feel.”
“This wasn’t how I planned on spending my day. You know the worst part?”
“The broken wrist?”
“No. It’s parent-teacher night.”
The End
