There was no doubting the zeal of Dee and Ryo’s latest batch of would-be police officers. As usual, they had a bit of a mixed bag of wet behind the ears academy cadets, but they were certainly enthusiastic, like a boxful of bright-eyed, overeager puppies. As analogies went, that wasn’t the most encouraging, since Dee didn’t particularly like dogs, but…
Well, they were here to be trained, disciplined, taught how to do their job, just as the dogs of the canine unit were, so maybe the analogy wasn’t that far off the mark. Raring to go, the eight mismatched recruits stood to attention before the two men who were to be their training officers for the next few months; if they’d had tails, they would probably have been wagging them in unison.
Dee tried to remember if he’d looked so innocent and young on his first day at the police academy. This bunch were in for a rude awakening; they had no idea how tough their training was going to be, but they were about to find out.
“We’ll see how enthusiastic they are after they’ve been put through their paces. If they survive,” Dee murmured to his husband.
“Sometimes I think this is your favorite part of the job,” Ryo responded, glancing sidelong at his husband.
“Damn right it is. We get to see what we’ve got to work with, and they start findin’ out exactly what they’re capable of. We’ll make cops outta them, whatever we haveta do.”
The End
