Stopping in a convenience store to grab bottles of water and some pre-made sandwiches, because they didn’t have time today for a proper lunch, Dee paused in the act of paying the cashier, and added, “Oh, and I’ll have a couple of those scratch cards, please.”
Ryo raised an eyebrow. “Didn’t you just tell me that you were going to save all the money you weren’t spending on cigarettes now that you’ve quit?”
“I know, what can I say? I feel lucky today.” Dee paid the cashier, picked up his purchases, and followed his lover back to their assigned vehicle.
They ate their sandwiches while still parked at the curb, then tossed the trash in the bin conveniently situated where Dee could reach it just by rolling the passenger side window down.
“Don’t start the car just yet.” Dee handed one of the scratch cards to his partner. “You do this one, let’s see what we won.”
“You’re confident.” Ryo grinned.
“Like I said, I feel lucky.”
Scratching away, Ryo chuckled. “Looks like you won your money back on this one.”
Dee whooped. “And that’s not all! I got three hundred bucks on this one! Let’s go collect our winnings!”
