Ryo stared at the sign on the elevator door with a sigh of resignation. “Out of order. Isn’t that just perfect?”
After spending the last four hours at the ER, waiting to be seen, and then having a sprained knee diagnosed and strapped up, all he wanted was to collapse onto the sofa and put his leg up, perhaps with an ice pack to take some of the swelling down. Instead, he was now facing a climb up four flights of stairs, on crutches, all because some idiot had tried resisting arrest.
“Don’t worry, babe, it’ll be fine. I’ll just carry ya,” Dee assured him.
“Are you insane?” Ryo turned to his lover, the disbelief clear on his face. “You can’t carry me up four flights!”
“Why not? I’ve done it before. Just hop on my back.”
“Last time, you were carrying me downstairs, and I could bend both knees,” Ryo pointed out. “This is not the same thing at all.”
“Ya can’t walk, not with that bad knee.”
“I can if I take one stair at a time.”
“That’ll take ya all night! How about a compromise?” Dee looped Ryo’s arm around his shoulders, wrapped his arm around his lover’s waist, and picked the crutches up in his other hand. “Grab the handrail, and up we go!” With that, Dee lifted Ryo off his feet and set out for the first half-landing.
“I was right, you ARE insane!”
“I’m adaptable is all,” Dee said, pausing so they could both catch their breath before tackling the next part of the ascent.
“You can’t do this every morning and evening!”
“Hopin’ I won’t have to, once the elevator gets fixed.”
“But that could take days!”
“I’ll talk to the landlord. We’ll figure somethin’ out, if I haveta fix the elevator myself.”
The End
