Summary: Buffy regrets the loss of the ring Angel gave her.

The Claddagh ring Angel gave Buffy for her seventeenth birthday has been lost since she placed it on the floor on the mansion, where she killed Angel to keep the demon Acathla from sucking the entire world into literal Hell. She left the ring, and somehow that act must have called Angel back from the Hell dimension she sent him to, because less than twenty-four hours later, she’d found herself in the woods, battling a feral version of the man she’d loved.

 
Now, of course, Angel is gone, to L.A., to start a new life away from her, because being together was… not working out. It wasn’t Angel’s fault, and it wasn’t hers; it was just that being together was more of a risk than either of them could afford.
 

She misses him, horribly, even as she prepares to leave home for the college dorms, and she can’t help but wish she still had the ring, because of what it represented, and because it was given to her by the first real love of her life. She knows she’ll move on, hopes she’ll find love again, the kind that will last, but part of her heart will always be Angel’s.
