A/N: Triple drabble.
Daniel had joined SG-1 out of love for his wife, because after Apophis took her to become a Goa’uld host, it had seemed the only way he might have any hope of getting her back. And there HAD been hope, at least to start with, but it had been gradually chipped away until the day Teal’c had been forced to kill Amaunet to save Daniel’s life. That had been the most devastating loss imaginable, yet he couldn’t blame Teal’c; his friend had done the right thing, even though it had meant the end of Daniel’s hopes and dreams.
He still loved Sha-re, and part of him always would; she’d been so beautiful, smart, funny, so full of life. But as devastating as her death had been, it hadn’t changed his mind about working with SG-1. He’d said once that the SGC represented the single most important endeavour for the future of mankind; he’d meant it, and he still believed it completely.
What they were doing mattered more than anything he could be doing elsewhere. There was so much the human race didn’t know, so much they could learn, so many other races out there, people they could help, and people like the Asgard, the Nox, the Tok’ra, and the Tollan, who could help humanity, educate, and guide. If that wasn’t a good reason to keep going through the Stargate, he didn’t know what was.
Earth had made a powerful enemy in the Goa’uld, just because they’d been unlucky enough to run into Ra on their first trip through the ‘gate. The genie was out of the bottle; there was no way of putting it back in. The lost world of the Tau’ri was rediscovered. Daniel had joined SG-1 out of love for his wife; he stayed for love of knowledge.
