Summary: Gwen’s first field mission just makes her appear incompetent.

Gwen was painfully aware that to the rest of the team, Jack included, she was the new recruit. Owen and Tosh were apparently both experienced field operatives, while this was her first time out of a mission. She had no idea what she was supposed to do and as she fumbled and stumbled, she almost got left behind and had to scramble to catch up.


She desperately wanted to impress her new colleagues, prove that Jack was right to recruit her, that she belonged on the team as much as they did, but as they got on with what were for them probably routine tasks, nobody seemed willing to explain what was expected of her and she began to wonder if they needed her there at all.


Perhaps if she helped them with what they were doing… She’d seen Tosh and Owen tossing things to each other, so when Owen wanted a chisel to take a sample of the massive rock, Gwen threw one to him.


It flew straight past, hit the rock, and cracked it open, releasing a weird gas.


Gwen was mortified; now she seemed clumsy and incompetent, definitely not the good impression she was trying to make!
