The months of training paid off. Come the day of the New York Marathon Ryo ran steadily through familiar streets, not pushing himself too hard because this was about completing the course, not trying to beat more experienced marathon runners.


He’d known it wouldn’t be easy, the roads were hard on his feet, just as they had been throughout his training, but today there were so many people running with him. They spread out as the race continued and he zoned out, concentrating on his breathing and on keeping an even stride.


Dee would be waiting at the finish line.
