Fic Of The Week - Week Nine

It's that time again! First, just let me say I loved Hatful Of Hollow and I hope everyone else did too - there will be another invisible_lift fic in a few weeks!

For this week though, there will once again be two shortish fics. This is because I want to read milady_dragon 's latest Big Bang fic and most people will already have beaten me to it.

Here's the summary:  Jack Harkness has all he's ever dreamed of:  he's mortal once more, married to the man he loves, and it's his only daughter's wedding day.  He only has one problem: he cannot remember the last twenty-five years of his life.  Can his past nightmares affect his near-perfect future?

Sounds so good I can't wait to start reading!

Fic 2 is from way back in October 2008 - a short 6 chapter fic by lonelyangel_x called The Trouble With Families. It's rated 12 and if the style of writing seems slightly strange it's because it's the first fic by the author, who was more used to role-playing! I thought it sounded intriguing though.

Summary: When Ianto gets a phone call from his mother, Jack feels obligated to find out what's going on. But there are some things even Captain Jack Harkness can't fix.

They just don't have good enough security; I think it is just too expensive?

You got that right! It's where some jerks flood the site with too much stuff/reguest, I can't remember, anyway it slows everything down so the real users can't get on I think. Not sure if it is an acutal virus?

No, not really a virus I think, more of an attack by idiots who want to disrupt service to everyone else. It's a selfish and cowardly act!

PS. different subject, but Alex just spilled tea on the couch, never drinking there again without a sippy cup. He spilled coke there not long ago. It's our only really nice couch which is a hand-me-down anyway. Most of are furniture is hand-me-downs, and with our debt. and M's buying compulsion of expensive computer stuff, who knows if we will ever be able to buy much. Oh well, should not complain, there are people in the world that have "much" less and would be glad to have anything, furniture much worse than ours, in fact I think we are quite blessed. I am just a complainer.

That's not good. Coke is so sticky! I hope it doesn't stain.

Yeah, most of our furniture is second hand and on its last legs, or cheap stuff. As long as it does its job, I don't mind too much. Let's just say I'm not exactly house proud. If I can sit on it or lie on it in reasonable comfort, it's good enough for me. After spending three and a half months in winter 2010/spring 2011 having to sleep on an inflatable mattess on the floor, anything else is luxury!

Oh yeah! Your house got flooded, right? If I only had a "memory???" You don't have to go through it again, but I remember it was awful. You had difficult Christmas's and were freezing. I felt so bad for you. :( ...and that awful coal heater I believe you still have to shovel coal into for 2 or 3 hours every morning. That sucks! Inflatable mattress on the floor...OH! You have had it fun! (NOT) I'm so sorry. Is your house small? Ours is, but it least it is warm and dry. I should "never" complain! The worst we have it is clutter and dust and that can be easily fixed and it doesn't really even matter. M is the same way, as long as we have something to sit on, who cares.

Michael was just in here and he wanted me to tell you that he wanted to send you some money for your birthday and I wouldn't let him which makes me sound like a real "shit"...I was nervous, stupid, unsure if you would accept it, not that I didn't care. Everyone seems to give virtual gifts on LJ and dumbass me didn't even do that. *hangs head in shame*...

Anyway he just told me he would like to send you some money for your birthday through Paypal if you have that if you would accept it. :D Let us know... and please kick me.

You have enough money troubles of your own and we do okay (I did just get a small legacy in my aunt's will, so I'm feeling flush). We're not rich, but we're lucky enough not to owe anything, and we're in a position where we can afford to do what's needed, so don't you two start worrying about us! Your friendship means more to me than anything - the most important things in life are things no amount of money can buy!

He said: whether you have money or not, it was still your "birthday" and you deserved a present! He is quite stubborn, but I agree with him.

I do also agree that friendship is the most important thing and I would never want to lose yours. :D

We will have to exchange addresses at some point though, so we can send cards or silly things! If I ever get making crochet animals, I'll want to send you one!

Michael, you are naughty, but apparently extemely stubborn!

A Birthday present is fine, but only if you really feel you want to, and as long as it's not big or expensive, but neither of you should ever feel it's necessary, because it's the friendship that counts to me, that's the best gift I can have.

Stubbornness is not always a bad thing, though it can prove frustrating! I can be pretty stubborn myself, usually when I know I'm right about something and no one will listen, lol! I get that from my mum - though she tends to be stubborn even when she's wrong. THAT can be a bit of a problem. She never admits she was wrong, either!

Oh my gosh, you come from the same family! lol! When Michael thinks he is right that is it! Unless I can come up with something that he really believes is right, he will not change his mind. His Dad is worse than he is. His Dad thinks he is "always" right, no way to change his mind, at least Michael is open to it, but still...we have had some major arguments.

I gave up arguing with mum years ago. I listen to her, then do things my way and let her do things her way. Then I re do what she did when she does it all wrong. She never notices! Arguing with her just makes her sulk and stop talking to me, and while the peace and quiet can be pleasant it's not always helpful!
