Summary: The Rift has dropped off a nifty bit of tech from the future.

A/N: Double drabble. Based on my own recent woes.
 


 
“I haven’t seen one of these in years!” Jack said, an excited grin on his face as he set a box-shaped device on the corner of his desk.
 

“That’s what came through the Rift?”
 

“Yep!” Jack rubbed his hands together. “You’re going to love it!”
 

“Really?” Ianto raised a sceptical eyebrow. “What is it?”
 

“They were all the rage in the thirty-fourth century. An earth invention, sort of a future version of a home movie projector or DVD player, but more advanced, with thousands of hours of recording capacity to each crystal. You get pictures, sounds, and smells, and it’s beyond 3D, like really being there, right in the middle of events. With this, you can feel like you’re on another planet, experience it to the full!” As Jack was speaking, he was unwinding a thin cable which he plugged into the wall socket. Turning back to the machine, he switched it on.
 

Nothing happened. Then Ianto heard a muted crackling and caught the smell of burning plastic…
 

He lunged at the wall and yanked the plug from the socket, looking at it in dismay; the pins had melted off.
 

“I don’t think it’s compatible with the Hub’s electrical systems.”

Thank you. I was just talking with someone about 'self-care' recently, and it's something I'm really bad at, but I'm trying to change that. Celebrating my birthday is a good start, I figure.
