Throughout his life, Drake had thought of himself as the perennial loser. It wasn’t entirely true; he’d graduated high school with above average grades, gotten the necessary academic qualifications to enter the police academy, survived that and his rookie year, and gone on to become a detective, but that had always been the sum total of his successes.
He'd never won a single sports pool, never had a winning raffle or lottery ticket, and when it came to his love life… Every girl he’d ever dated had eventually dumped him in favor of a better prospect, or because they weren’t compatible, or for any of a dozen other reasons, and that was only the ones who’d initially said yes when he’d asked them out. Usually, girls turned him down flat.
“Hi, I’m Drake.”
“I’m not interested.”
Yeah, love and successful relationships were things that happened to other people, not to Drake.
Until now.
All those years of dating one girl after another, trying to find one who’d stick with him, and now here he was, dating a guy, and he’d never been happier.
Who cared if his lottery numbers never came up? He’d already won the only prize that mattered.
The End
