Accidents happened. It was just bad luck the intruder had found his way into the Hub through the tourist office entrance; the false wall had failed to close properly behind the team, all because of a stray paperclip.

 
Nevertheless, they’d arrived back from dealing with a troublesome Weevil to find a stranger snooping about, going through drawers, reading files, eating their food, and even taking photos. As security breaches went, it was a major one.

 
On the plus side, once he’d got in he hadn’t been able to get out again, and from inside the base, phones couldn’t connect to the outside world without the proper authorisation.
 

“Now what do we do?” Owen hissed to the others. With Jack gone, they had to deal with everything themselves.
 

Ianto brushed past everyone. “Congratulations, and welcome to Torchwood. You’ve shown great initiative finding your way in, which makes you exactly the sort of person we’re looking to hire.”

 
Completely taken off guard, the man’s face lit up. “Really?”
 

“Certainly. Please come up to my office; there’s some paperwork to fill in.”
 

Twenty minutes later, the retconned man was up on the Plas, asleep on a bench.
 

Owen grinned. “Crafty! I like it!”
