“It wouldn’t be so bad if he didn’t always haveta throw himself at me every time he sees me,” Dee muttered, getting up and dusting himself off. “It’s unprofessional, not to mention downright embarrassin’.”

 
“He likes you,” Ryo said, smirking.
 

“Likin’ someone is smilin’ and sayin’ hello when ya see them, not jumpin’ all over them, tryin’ to kiss them. JJ’s supposed to be a grown-ass adult, but he acts like a cross between an overexcited toddler and a limpet. How many damn arms has he got?”

 
“Limpets don’t have arms,” Ryo pointed out, still thoroughly enjoying his partner’s discomfiture.
 

“Okay, octopus then, if you’re gonna split hairs.” Dee scowled at Ryo. “You’re my partner; aren’t ya supposed to have my back?”

 
“Of course, when we’re up against criminals, but JJ’s on our side.”
 

“Could’a fooled me. Every time he sees me, I wind up black and blue. I know police work can be dangerous, but it’s a bit much when my biggest occupational hazard is one of my colleagues. He’s gonna be the death of me at this rate.”

 
“You’re exaggerating, Dee. He’s not that bad.”
 

“You’re only sayin’ that ‘cause you’re not the one on the receivin’ end.”
