Summary: Ryo is battered and sore, but he’ll be fine.

Sitting in the ER waiting to be seen proved every bit as tedious as Ryo had expected, making him glad he’d managed to persuade Dee to finish the task of cleaning the worst of the dirt from his wounds back at the precinct. They sat on uncomfortable plastic chairs for over four hours, during which time they each drank two cups of bad coffee, ate a couple of candy bars, and shared a bag of potato chips.

 
It was boring, and the raw abrasions on Ryo’s arm, knees, and both palms burned, weeping blood every time he moved, but finally a nurse called his name, and he limped his way to the treatment area. Dee followed, but waited outside, on guard in case the gang Ryo had infiltrated had more members than he’d known about. Dee had no intention of putting his lover’s life at further risk; the day’s events had already been scary enough.
 

When Ryo came out, wounds cleaned and dressed, he smiled reassuringly at his partner. “Looks like I’ll survive.”
 

“Don’t even joke. You could’ve been killed.”
 

“I know. That’s a risk we take every time we go undercover, but I’m fine.”
 

“Not gonna stop me worryin’.”
