“Man, I’m beat!” Dee groaned as he and Ryo finally bowed out of the birthday party JJ had thrown for Drake at a swanky hotel downtown, stepping outside to find the sun was just coming up. “I must be gettin’ old. Seriously, used to be I could stay up all night and go straight to work the next mornin’, work a twelve-hour shift, go home, crash for a few hours, then do it all over again.”
“We did work a full shift yesterday,” Ryo pointed out.
“Yeah, eight hours big deal.”
“And for most of it, we were on our feet, canvassing for potential witness in the Weinbaum case, then chasing a potential suspect in the Robertson assault.”
“Who was only runnin’ ‘cause he thought we were onto his little side business, sellin’ those fake designer purses he claims fell off the back of a lorry.” Dee frowned. “Was that only yesterday? Feels like forever ago.”
“Good thing we don’t have to work today,” Ryo said, squinting against the brightness of the early morning sunlight. “We can just go home and fall into bed.”
Dee immediately perked up, grinning. “Wanna see if we can stay up all day as well?”
