A/N: Triple drabble.
JJ had been subdued ever since his ex-partner had gone rogue, tied him up, tried to steal drugs from the evidence locker, and gotten himself shot. Dee didn’t know whether the fact that he and Ryo had been the ones to kill the guy made the situation better or worse in JJ’s eyes. That his crush had come to his rescue, or that the man he adored had betrayed him by killing someone he’d considered a friend. The whole thing was a mess, no matter how anyone looked at it.
But Dee still felt bad for JJ. How could he not? Just because he didn’t have any romantic interest in the guy didn’t mean he didn’t care at all. JJ was a colleague, and if not for his obsessive love-bombing, Dee might have considered him a friend. At the very least, they were on the same side.
Maybe Max Fork had been a good cop at one time, the tragic death of his fiancée had sent him over the edge, but what he’d done, killing a fellow cop, injuring two others… How many more might have been killed just to line his own pockets? In the end, Fork hadn’t cared about anyone but himself. He hadn’t just betrayed JJ, he’d betrayed the badge and everything every decent cop stood for.
Perhaps in time JJ would get over the way his ex-partner had used him, and hopefully it wouldn’t leave him jaded and cynical. JJ’s optimism was his best quality; Dee didn’t want to see that tarnished, especially not because of some guy who’d sold out. JJ was better than that. Not that Dee would ever tell him so to his face. That would be asking for trouble.
Still, Dee figured he should keep an eye on JJ, just in case.
