“Owen!” Ianto glared at the medic, hands on hips. “What are you doing to Nosy?”
“Nothing bad, just helpin’ it learn. It’s the team Fluff, so we all should have a hand in teaching it.”
“While I don’t disagree in principle, the more people teaching it the faster it will learn, what you’re doing looks less like teaching and more like torture.”
Nosy was lying on the concrete, green eyes goggling, its head swivelling from side to side, its attention torn between five grapes on one plate, and a chocolate chip cookie on the other.
“We’re Torchwood, we need to make important decisions all the time,” Owen explained. “I’m just trying to help Nosy learn to make choices quickly. If it can’t even decide between two kinds of snack, how can it be expected to make more difficult decisions?”
“So you’re offering it two of its favourite foods in the world and expecting it to just make up its mind like… that?” Ianto snapped his fingers. “I hardly think that’s fair.”
“It’s the sort of decision we have to make all the time in the field.”
“No it’s not. In the field it’s life-or-death, not snack time.”
“Speak for yourself.”
