Everyone knew what to expect when Jack was behind the wheel of the SUV: the speeding, and ignoring of road signs, traffic lights, other vehicles, pedestrians… If not for his sharp fifty-first century eyesight and fast reflexes, half the population of Cardiff, not to mention a large number of tourists, would probably be either in the hospital or pushing up daisies.

 
Small wonder that most locals, on seeing the familiar bulk of Torchwood’s official vehicle approaching, tended to glare at it and mutter “Bloody Torchwood!” They were the lucky ones; they didn’t have to endure Jack’s driving as a passenger. After experiencing a few near misses, when it seemed certain that Jack would either ram them headfirst into an oncoming vehicle, or play skittles with the people on the pavement, it was a miracle the entire team hadn’t turned prematurely grey.
 

“It wouldn’t kill you to show some respect for other road users,” Ianto told Torchwood’s leader after one such death-defying incident. “The rate you’re going, you might kill the rest of us.”
 

Jack was unfazed. “Relax, Ianto; I’m in complete control.”

 
“Which would be fine if the same could be said for other drivers. Not everyone has your reflexes.”
