Drake sighed as he watched JJ, hearts in his eyes as always, practically throwing himself at Dee. It had been like this ever since JJ had transferred to the two-seven; he’d pour out his heart to Dee, while Dee rebuffed him at every turn.
 

It was painful to watch, both for JJ’s over-enthusiastic gestures of undying affection, and for the fact that he knew the little guy would only get hurt again, leaving Drake to pick up the pieces. It happened every time.

 
He didn’t know all the backstory, didn’t really need to, it was enough that JJ was completely smitten with Dee, who didn’t reciprocate his feelings and never would. Drake had known Dee from their uniform days, they were firm friends, and JJ simply wasn’t his type. He was too needy, too willing to drop everything for his Love God, putting Dee up on a pedestal he’d never asked for and didn’t want.

 
The thing was, Drake liked his partner, considered him a close friend, and hated seeing that heartbroken look in his eyes. JJ was usually such a bubbly, happy person. If only he’d accept that he’d never win Dee’s heart.
 

Drake sighed again. “Love is blind.”
