A loud thud sent Jack rushing from the master bedroom, where he’d been putting laundry away, frantic with worry for his daughter. Meriel was barely two, and while he hadn’t left her alone, relying on Nosy to keep an eye on her, he couldn’t help but feel guilty. She could be seriously hurt!
 

His worst fears seemed to be confirmed when he found Meriel sitting on the floor in the lounge, sobbing her heart out, and clinging to Nosy. Dropping to his knees, he wrapped his arms protectively around his baby girl.
 

“It’s okay, princess, Daddy’s here. Did you fall over and hurt yourself?” The last Jack had seen, Meriel and Nosy had been playing tag. She’d probably tripped.
 

“Bang, Daddy!” Meriel wailed, clutching Nosy even tighter.
 

“Did you bang your head?” Jack tried to check for a bruise, but Meriel was shaking her head.
 

“No, Daddy! Nose…”
 

“You banged your nose?” Her tiny button nose looked perfectly fine too.
 

“Nosy!”
 

“Nosy banged your nose?”
 

“Nosy go bang!” Meriel let go of the Fluff with one arm, pointing to a toppled chair. She was crying because her friend had banged into a chair and hurt itself. Empathy went both ways.
