Summary: Taking the dog for a walk is a lot less fun in bad weather.

“Walkies!” he’d said, and Dick had come scampering with his leash, always eager for a good sniff around the neighbourhood. Dee was getting to quite enjoy the leisurely strolls, but tonight he’s starting to wish he’d looked out the window first.


He’s not the only one less than enthusiastic about the weather. There’s a gusty wind blowing sleet in both their faces and instead of trotting along at Dee’s side, Dick is lagging behind, taking advantage of the small amount of protection provided by Dee’s legs.


When he pauses beneath a sheltering tree and looks down at the dog, Dick’s ears and tail are drooping and Dee could almost swear the miniature dachshund is frowning accusingly at him, as if to say, “How dare you drag me out on a night like this!” Dick’s no fan of the wind and probably isn’t relishing getting wet and cold either.


“Sorry, bud. If I’d known it was like this out I’d have gotten you into one of your coats first.”


Puppy dog eyes gaze beseechingly up at Dee and he sighs; he’s such a sucker.


“Fine.” He scoops the mutt up, tucking the small body inside his coat, and heads for home.
