Summary: Dee is under house arrest and feeling sorry for himself, but Ryo brings him some very welcome good news.

Letting himself into his partner’s apartment, Ryo found Dee hunched on the day bed, staring gloomily out into the gathering darkness. House arrest was proving hard on him under the current circumstances, even though he understood that it was deserved. He shouldn’t have gone after Lloyd the way he did; he was too close to the case. He might have gotten away with it if he hadn’t discharged his weapon, but it was easy enough to be wise in hindsight.

 
Still, it was a harsh punishment. Dee didn’t enjoy being cooped up at the best of times, and with Mother in the hospital, it was understandable that he wanted to be there for her. No wonder he was so down. Looked like he could do with some good news, and that was something Ryo could provide.

 
“I went and visited Mother today. She’s conscious and doing really great. The doctor says she’s gonna make it.”
 

The relief on Dee’s face made Ryo’s heart ache for his friend. How worried he must have been, unable to see her himself or even get information from the hospital.
 

“Thank God.”
 

“We can visit her next week.”
 

“I’d like that.” Dee looked happier already.
